Summer Camp with Abrakadoodle®

Abrakadoodle®, Remarkable Art Education!, in partnership with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, is pleased to announce 18 special half-day and full-day camp options for children ages 3-5 and 6-12, as well as one camp for 8 to 14 year olds (Animé Camp) for Summer 2008! Parents and their kids can join us too for our new one-evening Family Nights workshops: "Soil, It's Alive" and "Amazing Aquifer"! Children will get a chance to experience hands-on learning and fun, while learning about artists of all kinds and their techniques during all our special art camps. ABRAKADOODLE® ANIME
July 21-24, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
$185 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included. This camp is for ages 8 - 14.

Join in the newest trend in animation! Animé is the Japanese art of animation and Camp Abrakadoodle® teaches you how to create that unique look that is Animé! Learn about the basics of head and facial features plus body motion and everything else to create your own Animé characters. Use shapes, colors and techniques with art materials used in the industry to produce finished Animé. A guide book to all the specific features helps you create your characters. At the end of camp take your Abrakadoodle® Animé Guide Book and the rest of your materials to further explore this unusual art form at home.

AROUND THE WORLD
June 9-12, 9:00am to noon; and July 28-31, 9:00am to noon.
$150 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included

Visit the jungles of Ecuador where we create Exotic Birds; Mexico where we learn about sun faces; India as we create a Festival Elephant; the Inuits from the north where we learn to sculpt a polar bear and; come back home to Texas with a colorful rainbow that reflects the many colors of local flora and fauna at the Wildflower Center. Students learn how they can use simple observation skills to interpret the world around them through artistic expression - take a creative trip with Abrakadoodle®!

THE ART OF STORIES
July 14-17, 9:00am to noon; August 11-14, 9:00am to noon.
$165 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included.

Who doesn't love a good story?! Not to mention a special picture book! In this wonderful Abrakadoodle® camp, children will be reacquainted with some of their favorite story books and go beyond words to learn about the colorful creations children's illustrators have concocted to delight their readers. We will learn about the collages of Eric Carle in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the textured drawings of Maurice Sendak in Where the Wild Things Are, the quirky characters of Korky Paul and the loveable yet cartoon-ish creatures in Dr. Seuss' classics, among others. Children regain and enhance their appreciation for their favorite books and illustrations through the arts and storytelling.

FEELING PRETTY FANCY
July 7 - 10, 9:00am to noon; and August 4 - 7, 9:00am to noon

Ever wonder how they create jewelry, shoes or hats, or from where designers get their "wild" ideas? Join Abrakadoodle® at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center as we get inspired by the natural beauty to create and design our own unique jewelry, hats, shoes, bags, and more! This eight class series of pretty fancy art will introduce kids to the world of fashion design, while learning about Cartier, Manolo Blahnik, Arthur Rackham, art terms, and multicultural art. Come join the fun as we sculpt, weave, design and decorate our own one-of-a-kind wearable creations!

FAMILY NIGHTS - SOIL, IT'S ALIVE !

The Wildflower Center with Abrakadoodle® brings you a science and art evening workshop with hands on fun for parents and children alike! Learn about the local soils and what grows and doesn't in them and the delicate balance soil plays to our local environment with hands-on exploration and through art! Each registration fee includes one child and one parent.

FAMILY NIGHTS - AMAZING AQUIFER

The Wildflower Center with Abrakadoodle® brings you a science and art evening workshop with hands on fun for parents and children alike! Learn about Amazing Aquifers including our locally treasured Edwards' Aquifer and the delicate balance it plays in our local environment. Get ready for some fun, hands-on exploration outdoors and through art! Each registration fee includes one child and one parent.

ICKY, SLIMY, GOOEY
June 23 - 26; and July 28 - 31, 1 to 4:30 p.m.
$165 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included

Have fun in Abrakadoodle® class at the Wildflower Center when we sculpt icky bug doodles, print slimy fish prints and fold slinky snakes! Learn about creating your own art materials when you mix up some Goodle! Create a movie monster named Doodlezilla, and more! We'll do some field observations of live creatures that will be naturally on display at the Center this Summer ! This eight class series of icky, slimy, gooey art will show children how to make their own unique creations, while learning about ecology, art terms, and unusual art jobs, all while being messy!

KIDS ON CANVAS
June 23 - 26, 9:00am to noon; and Aug 4-7, 1 to 4:30 p.m.
$185 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included

Students with an interest in learning about master artists and their painting techniques to inspire their own masterpieces will work with professional grade materials including acrylic paints and a variety of canvas papers, boards and other high-quality media. Artists study Renoir, Warhol, Modigliani, and Pollock, among others. We will be outdoors for some of our lessons. Children will learn to observe their beautiful surroundings and reflect that within their colorful artwork, whether through an impressionist garden or a pop-art style flower! As in the words of Renoir, "Why shouldn't art be pretty?"

MASTER ARTISTS & TECHNIQUES
June 27; July 11, July 25; and August 8, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ages 3-5 and Ages 6-12
$85 for one-day camp, Fridays, all materials included, new lessons for each camp!

Our popular programs, Mini Doodlers (3-5 year olds) and Doodlers (6-12 year olds), introduce new techniques, artists and artistic styles and make use of high-quality materials through an exclusive partnership with Crayola®. Contemporary and master artists share their talents through our Artist of Distinction Program. These exceptional artists help us to understand their specialties in paint, sculpture, design and more through Abrakadoodle®'s unique program. Join us at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for some of our favorite lessons for summertime on specially highlighted artists, such as Paul Klee, O'Keefe, Hokusai, Picasso and more!

PORTFOLIO KIDS: TIME MACHINE
June 30-July 3, 9:00am to noon; August 11-14, 1 to 4:30 p.m
$165 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included

Exploring art through time is the focus of this special Portfolio Kids session. Students will create a unique portfolio to hold their masterpieces as we study art through the ages from cave paintings, Egyptian and Greek art, masters of the Renaissance, Impressionist and Pop Art eras, to arrive in the 21st century with digital art. Artists such as Monet and Peter Max will be discussed as well as appropriate vocabulary. Conditions and scheduling permitting, we will visit on-site locations such as the lily ponds, the cave, and the tower.

PIRATE ISLAND
July 14-17, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Aug 18-21, 9:00am to noon

Complete with a take home art kit, this Abrakadoodle® fantasy camp can extend the learning at home too! Come learn about Pirates and things nautical with us through a truly unique experience for the imagination! We'll climb the Tower at the Wildflower Center and lookout over our own "island" and visit "Treasure Cave" while getting a chance to get into some hands-on messy projects and explore the rest of the grounds at the Wildflower Center - Shiver me Timbers!

PUPPET SHOW
July 21 - July 24, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Mini Doodlers only, ages 3 to 7)
$150 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included

Come along and learn how to make different kinds of puppets, as well as a miniature puppet theatre, for your own show! We'll spark our imaginations as we make paper plate puppets, dancing puppets, talking puppets and finger puppets and stage our own final grand performance combining all the characters we invent! Children will have the opportunity to be outdoors and observe their natural surroundings at the Wildflower Center to provide thought-provoking and colorful models to create fun characters for a one-of-a-kind puppet show!

NEW FOR 2008! GARDEN ART SAFARI
June 16-19, 9:00am to noon; and July 21 - 24, 9 a.m. to noon

Abrakadoodle and Lady Bird Johnson's Wild Flower Center have joined together to create this special program for flower centers, botanical gardens, arboretums and other gardens. Art lessons focus upon the elements in a garden such as soil, plants and pollinators and artistic styles and techniques that lend themselves to a garden environment. Doodler students learn how to use a sketchbook while Mini Doodlers explore the tactile elements of garden life. This is a wonderful art and science program in which the art is all about this special environment!

NEW FOR 2008! WILD ‘N WACKY ART!
June 30- July 3, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m
$185 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included

Get silly! Get goofy! Get creative with Wild ‘N Wacky Art! Learn about modern artists, such as Paul Klee, Rachael Stroud, Picasso, Robert Indiana and more, while using a variety of unusual materials and techniques to transfer your energy into art. We will play games and listen to stories and music from our own Abrakadoodle CD. At the end of camp take home the rest of their art kit materials for added fun at home. Materials fee includes all materials, props, games, stories and music used in class as well as the take home kit that extends the learning and fun at home

NEW FOR 2008! ZOO-DOODLE SAFARI!
July 7 - 10, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m
$185 for half-day camp, Monday through Thursday, all materials included

It's time for an adventure with Abrakadoodle's ZooDoodle Safari! Create jungle cats, monkeys, elephants and more when you go on this adventure with Abrakadoodle. We'll make safari art with paints, modeling materials and wild animal print papers. During camp we will keep a jungle journal to create pictures of your awesome adventure. We will play games, listen and sing along to music plus tell animal stories while on the exploration. At the end of the session take home your Abrakadoodle ZooDoodle Safari Kamper Kit with your kit materials to further explore art at home. So pack your gear and let's take off on a ZooDoodle Safari with Abrakadoodle!
